Alaska Department of Fish and Game

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game’s mission is to protect, maintain, and improve the fish, game, and aquatic plant resources of the state, and manage their use and development in the best interest of the economy and the well-being of the people of the state, consistent with the sustained yield principle. WNS would pose a serious threats to Alaska’s bats should it arrive in the state, with the little brown bat being the only species found north of the southeastern panhandle. The Department is currently engaged with federal and state agency partners and researchers to develop a response plan for preventing the spread of the disease to the state, conducting WNS surveillance and monitoring the state’s bat populations.
