Mississippi Bat Working Group

The Mississippi Bat Working Group (MBWG) was formed at the Sixth Annual Southeastern Bat Diversity Network (SBDN) Meeting in 2001 by Chester Martin, Environmental Laboratory, U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center. The group is modeled after the SBDN and shares the same primary goal of aiding in bat conservation through research and education.

The MBWG currently (2010) has 125 members from throughout Mississippi and five other states. Primary activities of the group include an annual meeting and annual mist net event.

Throughout the year, members work on specific bat conservation issues in Ad-hoc Committees, such as the Bat House Committee and Habitat Management Committee. We have members involved in 7 different Ad-hoc Committees. Membership dues are $10.00 and new members are always welcome.
