Conservation and Recovery

The National WNS Plan was developed in response to the threat to posed by the spread of WNS across North America. Understanding and managing populations of WNS-susceptible bats and their habitats and assisting in conservation and recovery of bat populations and habitats already affected by the disease are foundational to this plan. The Conservation and Recovery Working Group has prepared an Action Plan to monitor, conserve, and recover species affected by or susceptible to WNS.  One of the primary functions of this group is to identify other compounding stressors to bats and to work with key partners to develop best practices and techniques for the conservation and recovery of species that have been or may be affected by WNS.  This Action Plan is intended to be a dynamic product that will be periodically reviewed and updated to incorporate anticipated advancements made by researchers and field biologists.
