Disease Surveillance

Summary

The National WNS Plan recognizes that multiple partners have a critical role in WNS surveillance, and that coordination of surveillance activities is essential for effectively responding to WNS and its effects to bat populations across the nation. The Disease Surveillance Working Group has prepared an Action Plan to develop a framework for consistent, coordinated WNS surveillance, focusing on early detection of WNS in new species or areas as well as documenting progression of WNS in previously affected areas. This group will develop WNS surveillance standards that minimize disturbance to bats and potential transmission risks, while providing for maximum WNS detection. This Action Plan is intended to be a dynamic product that will be periodically reviewed and updated to incorporate anticipated advancements made by researchers and field biologists.
